Care

A well-kept hat holds its shape for many seasons. A few simple habits help.

Wool felt

Brush gently with a soft brush, following the direction of the fibres. Spot clean marks with a barely damp cloth. If your hat gets wet, reshape it by hand and let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators and direct sun.

Knits, cashmere & wool

Hand wash cold with a mild wool detergent, or spot clean. Do not wring; press out excess water in a towel, reshape while damp and dry flat.

Straw, raffia & paper straw

Keep dry and avoid crushing. Wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth. A brim that has lost its line can be steamed lightly and reshaped by hand.

Suede, leather & faux leather

Keep away from rain. Brush suede with a suede brush; wipe leather and faux leather with a soft, dry cloth.

Storage

Store hats on a rounded form or stuffed lightly with tissue, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid stacking structured hats.
